ABOUT RAINBOW GYPSY


Rainbow Gypsy is a replica 1897 square rig sailing bawley. She is a double ended round bilge construction, is of 6mrn mild steel to the water line, 5mm from there to the deck, 4.5 coachroof and wheel house. All welding is continuous both sides, she has 5 double bottom tanks, 5 water tight bulk heads, with a total of 11 water tight compartments. Other information and specs are as follows:

General Information, background and guidelines for applicants to enroll as crew.

BACKGROUND

The Tall Ship Rainbow Gypsy is a replica 1897 Scottish Sailiffg Trawler launched in 1999, with one overseas trip to the Pacific Islands in 2002. Owner / Master, Kit Woodward commands the ship after many years in the Merchant Navy, and 12 years cruising with his family on the original "RAINBOW GYPSY'" a basic square rigger with very few mechanical aids. Like all Tall Ships, life on board is fairly hard and challenging.
"RAINBOW GYPSY" is a dry ship with NO SMOKING

ALL CREW ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PASSPORTS, VISAS, VACCINATIONS.
Seasick tablets and personal medications for more than the expected time away.
PERSONAL BELONGINGS: A small backpack able to fit at the foot of your bunk for clothes (microfibre board shorts are quick drying), sleeved T-shirts, hat & sunglasses on lanyards and sunscreen for the tropics, chamois towel (no room for hanging wet towels), torch and a small battery fan with spare batteries makes sleeping in humid conditions more bearable, insect repellant, Wet Weather gear and a deck knife on a lanyard.

WATER: Drinking water only tap is located under the stove — 60 gallons General fresh water to the sink from under floor tank 115 gallons At Sea - washing up in sea water and rinse with limited fresh water
-- bathing —wash in sea water and rinse with 2 It fresh water daily
--toileting-sea water flush x 2 (minimal paper in system)
— please keep all toiletries in your pidgeon hole in laundry
— washing machine is not for use at sea All clothes, sheets tea towels etc washed in port. Do Not enter the boat wet, or in wet clothing - keep togs on deck. No salt water inside a steel boat.

FOOD Good plain wholesome food is provided.
All meals are designed quick and easy in case of bad weather. Meal Times—Breakfast Sam Lunch noon Dinner 5pm.
All washing up to be done before dark. All crew take turns at cooking. Stick to the set menus that have been catered for. To keep the fridge cold, please keep out and do not open unless you are the cook for that meal. Respectable Minimal Dress for meals - sleeved T-shirts and shorts.

WATCHES 2 hours steering, 2 hours watch keeping, and 8 hours off, rotated with a different partner each week.

HYGIENE There is a routine of a high standard of hygiene within the vessel at all times.
AJl share cost crew are expected to participate in all aspects of the running of the vessel. Including watch keeping, steering, sail handling, cooking, and general routines.

ACTIVITIES Tall ship sailing, diving, snorkeling. swimming, exploring tropical Island anchorages, and fishing.
As we will represent Global Care Australia, high standards of seamanship, crew performance, appearance, and bearing will be expected and maintained at all times.
