Rainbow Gypsy's itinerary for May and June 2010
We will be departing Bundaberg mid to end of May crossing the coral sea and visiting Banks and Torres Islands for a brief visit and on to Santa Cruz Island which is in the Southern Soloman Islands where we will unload the collected donations and charity aid for hospital and local schools. The main purpose of this trip is to travel north 380 miles to Guadalcanal Island to unload remainder of donations and charity aid to awakening of the nations conference being held from the 21st to the 30th of June 2010. Where it is expected inter island groups from Vanuatu, Bougainvillea, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia will attend the conference.
After which we will depart calling at Rendova island crossing back over Coral Sea with a brief stop over at Brampton Reef which is Chesterfeild group and onto Bundaberg.
We are looking for charity aid i.e. stationary for kids, text books, pens, pencils and other curriculum items for the many schools through out the islands. There are many things we will take i.e. clothing, waterdrums, computers, musical instruments, gardening tools, push bikes, chainsaws and medical supplies which would includes band aids, bandages, first aid equipment, mobility aids and such like items.
We are limited to items we can put in the cargo hold so we tend to specialize in the most good for the most people.
The voyage summary
Bundaberg, Banks Torres Group, 12 to 14 days at sea then to Santa Cruz Island we will be there in 4 to 5 days several days around Reef Islands several days up to Honiara for approximately one week and 7 to 8 days return to Bundaberg.
RAINBOW GYPSY
The replica of a 1897 Scottish sailing trawler the Rainbow Gypsy launched in 1999 With 15.3 LWL a 16ft beam, weighing 32 tone, carries 382 sq m of sail, with a gay leash ketch rig which has a few mechanical aids.
The traditional rig requires a high level of fitness from all it's crew, there is a fully modern galley providing three wholesome meals a day, also containing nine bunks, master cabin, toilet, shower & laundry area.
Rainbow Gypsy is sponsored by Timex sports since launched the vessel has completed three trips to the Solomon Islands, Bank group, Tories group, and Vanuatu, working closely with global care we have managed to deliver 9.5 tone of medical, educational, clothing and other aid to a great many Islands. The annual voyage departs Bundaberg's QLD from the Burnett Heads marina on a 45 day round trip which includes traditional sail training, swimming, surfing, deep water fishing, volunteer crew should all be willing fit and able to cope with the challenges and adventures the high seas may bring.
